Throughout our recent #thevegetarianmyth studies, the topic of #soy has come up multiple times in our discussion. Recently I shared with the teacher trainees a childhood memory I have of watching my grandfather, employed first at Spencer Kellogg, then Cargill in Des Moines Iowa, set down his big black lunchbox, and shake the soybean dust off his coveralls at the end of each workday. I also remember the very particular odor that routinely wafted down the corridors from our school lunchroom, announcing the soy burgers the nuns tried to pass off as the real thing. Being a discerning McDonalds connoisseur, I knew the difference. What comes to mind is the missed opportunity presented by the ubiquitous #schoollunch every day across our vast nation. Parents, I urge you to get involved in your kid's lunch program, & refuse to settle for anything less than the best for your "littles".
